Pioneer DJ Equipment

If you are trying to be a DJ for the first time, all the costs involved with what you see online can be pretty daunting. It can even be scary as some DJ equipment can cost upwards to $10000 easily. However, keep in mind that most of the stuff you see here are for professional DJs or club use. There are a lot more cheaper options available. So don’t let the price freak you out too much.

DJ Speakers

When I first began to DJ, I used home theater receiver as DJ speakers. It was simple as most home receivers have RCA outlets so it was as simple as plug in and play. If you must buy DJ speakers however, remember that your speakers must come with amplifiers attached. DJ speakers cannot produce sound unless you have amplifiers. Speakers with amplifiers will cost a lot more so do your research before purchasing them. Also make sure your components are all compatible with each other.

DJ Mixer

When I first began as a bedroom DJ, I looked for mixers on Craigslist and found one easily for like $40. Although most of professional mixers are very expensive, you can totally practice with a cheaper DJ mixer as long as it has a cross fader and 3 knobs for sound. (Treble, Bass, and Mid) As a Hollywood club DJ, I found that Pioneer Mixers are basically industry standard. So if you must purchase a mixer, I strongly recommend pioneer mixers with multi channel capabilities. If you are battle style DJ, I would go with Rane DJ mixer as those are heavily favored by professional Hip-Hop DJs. Vestax used to be the favorite for house and techno DJs but they are discontinued at the moment. So go with Pioneer. You can’t go wrong with them.
